Bike Adventure to Chagga Caves

At 08:00 AM, we set off on our cycling adventure toward Marangu Gate (1,900m)—the iconic starting point for Kilimanjaro treks via the Marangu Route. Capture stunning views of the mighty Kilimanjaro and experience the spirit of the mountain up close.

The Marangu area is home to the Chagga people, and today’s excursion offers a deep dive into their history and traditions.

Experience Highlights:

Coffee Tour – Visit a small local farm to learn about coffee cultivation, from harvesting and processing to roasting and brewing. Try your hand at preparing a fresh cup the traditional way.

Ndoro Waterfalls Hike – A scenic 30-minute descent leads you through lush greenery to the breathtaking waterfall. Take in the serene surroundings or enjoy a refreshing dip in its crystal-clear pool.

Chagga Underground Caves & Live Museum – Discover the rich history of the Chagga people, who built extensive underground caves to defend against Maasai raids. Your guide will bring these stories to life, followed by a visit to the Chagga Live Museum, an outdoor exhibit showcasing traditional Chagga life.

Chagga Cuisine & Local Drinks – Enjoy an authentic Chagga meal at a small local restaurant. Savor traditional hot dishes, then try unique local brews like banana beer and wine.

By late afternoon, we cycle toward Himo, where we load our bikes onto the carrier and drive back to Moshi—ending an unforgettable day of cultural immersion and adventure.
